The Certificate Awarding Ceremony of the ‘Search & Rescue Mission Coordinators Course’ was held on 27 June 2024 at the Regional Centre for Maritime Studies (RCMS). The course was conducted in collaboration with SAR Training Australia and the Australian High Commission to Sri Lanka.
The event was attended by His Excellency Paul Stephens, Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka; His Excellency Rémi Lambert, Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka; and Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara, Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and Director of RCMS.
The course was delivered by Mr. Peter Welch and Mr. Malcolm Bettenay from the SAR Training Australia. Ten participants from the Sri Lanka Navy (MRCC) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (ARCC) completed the training.
The program included theory sessions, case studies, group exercises, and practical scenarios to improve coordination in maritime and aviation search and rescue operations in Sri Lanka.
