The certificate awarding ceremony for the training course on ‘Port Safety – Dangerous Goods Law Enforcement’ was held on 30 May 2025 at the Regional Centre for Maritime Studies (RCMS), following the successful completion of this training program.

The course was conducted in collaboration with the EU-funded Global Port Safety (GPS) Project, and brought together participants from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Maritime safety experts from Poland and the Czech Republic delivered the course, offering a comprehensive blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience.

As part of the training, participants undertook a field visit to the Port of Colombo, where they engaged directly with operational procedures and gained valuable hands-on experience in the handling, monitoring, and safety enforcement of dangerous goods.

The charm ceremony was graced by Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara, the Vice Chancellor of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), as the Chief Guest. Commander Jean Baptiste – Maritime Safety and Security Advisor to the French Embassy in Sri Lanka, Ms. Victoria Dussardier – the Project Manager of the Global Port Safety (GPS) Project, and Captain Chamila Mendis – the Director of the RCMS, also attended.
