RCMS Hosts Inaugural Seminar on Response to Accidental Marine Pollution

The Regional Centre for Maritime Studies (RCMS) conducted its inaugural training programme “the Seminar on Response to Accidental Marine Pollution” from 11th to 13th December 2024 at the Kotelawala Defence University, Ratmalana for the participants from key maritime stakeholders of the country, including the Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Coast Guard, NARA, MEPA, Department of Wildlife Conservation, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Coast Conservation Department, and Ocean University.

Ms. Anne Le Roux an expert trainer from CEDRE, France led the comprehensive training programme.
The course was enriched by valuable contributions from Mr. Jagath Gunasekara, General Manager of the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA), who shared insights on Oil Spill Contingency Planning, and Commander Prashan Perera of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, who expertly covered Marine Casualty Management.

This represents the beginning of RCMS's journey to foster maritime expertise and build a more resilient maritime sector in the region.
